The Human Brain

The brain consists of so many different parts. Once you begin to actually get a feel of the anatomy of the brain, you will definitely be surprised at how complex it really is. The human brain is vital and has very important structures that all play a very important role. If there is any such injury to any part of the brain, you may notice some really huge impairs in the way that the brain functions.

When people hear about the brain alone, they need to remember that it is the energy of the human body. It commands everything from the ability to process thoughts to physiological functions. There are many reasons why the brain is unique. One of those reasons is because it also contains billions of neural responses that work together to finish many activities in the body. The spinal cord is actually what brings information up to the brain and messages and orders back down. There are so many important parts of the brain. Matter of fact, all parts of the brain play an important role, it is just that some of the parts play a bigger role than others. The smallest injury can result into something big when it comes to the brain.

Brain Stem

The brain stem is a big part of the human brain. This part of the brain is actually attached to the spinal cord at the back of the brain. The main job of the brain stem is to command unaware activity such as digestion, breathing, and pulse. The mid brain, pons, and the medulla oblongata are the 3 structures that make up the brain stem. The main job of the pons is to bring signs back and forth between the cerebrum and the cerebellum. The medulla oblongata is in charge of many things such as blood pressure, digestion, and pulse rate. If there is an injury that damages that brain stem, it is usually mortal.

Cerebellum and Cerebrum

The Cerebellum has many different functions. Some of the functions of the cerebellum include movement, stability, and composure. This part of the brain mainly directs activity and also helps any person to keep their stability and composure. The cerebrum includes the right and left brain hemispheres. They are all responsible for memory, sight, audition, and even talking. If a person experiences any problems or injuries to this part of the brain, they will experience loss of sight, loss of memory that may be permanent or for a short period of time, and even an being unable to talk. There are also other problems that are associated with injury to the cerebrum.

Frontal Lobe

The frontal lobe of the brain also serves a very important function. It is the largest of all four lobes of the human brain. It is responsible for awareness of thoughts, mobility that is voluntary, and even personality. It also helps with choosing words, behavior, and organization. If a person were to experience some type of damage to their frontal lobe, they can experience personality and behavior changes, and inability to make decisions. They will also have an affected attention span and organization skills as well.

Occipital Lobes

The occipital lobes are located behind the brain. The responsibility of these lobes is to deliver and accept information that is able to be seen. These lobes also develops colors and shapes. The right occipital lobe works more on explaining images from the left visual area. The left occipital lobe works on explaining images from the right visual area. If a person has damage to any of these lobes, they can suffer significant issues with the way they see things. A person would be unable to recognize colors, and they will have hallucinations and a loss of being able to visually perform actions.

Parietal Lobes

The main job of the parietal lobes is to modify and explain signs accepted from other brain areas. All of these signs consist of auditory, sight ,memory, and motor skills. These lobes are very important because they give many things different meanings and much more. People that suffer damage to their parietal lobes will experience problems recognizing shapes, objects, loss of inability to realize how things are arranged, not being able to distinguish left from right, and so much more.

Temporal Lobes

The temporal lobes are located on the lowest part and the side of both brain hemispheres. The right temporal lobe works with how you recognize objects, and the left temporal lobe works with expressed words and language memory. It also helps with event determination and structure. Emotional explanation is made possible through the back of the temporal lobes. Damage to either of the temporal lobes can cause an inability to recognize faces, communication and comprehensive problems, unable to recognize objects, loss of memory for a short period of time, and being unable to put objects into categories.

Broca’s Area

This is a part of the cortex that directs speech, and language recognition. It also controls nerves in the facial area.

Cerebral Cortex

The anatomy of the brain also consists of the cerebral cortex. This is just a mass that lays over the cerebrum. There are some nerves that intertwine the right and left sides of the cerebral cortex together. This part of the brain is in charge of processing thoughts, drawing logical conclusions , forming opinions, organizing, motion, and behavior overall. If a person were to have some type of damage to this side of the brain, they will end up being unable to make decisions, big personality change, and it will even cause many problems with focus and attention. Some people possibly can end up paralyzed from a cerebral cortex injury. They may also experience problems with sequencing, and an inability to use expressive language.

The Limbic System

The limbic system consists of 4 different parts of the brain that all constitute to a very important function. This part of the brain is where most of human’s emotions are situated. This is also the part of the brain where memory starts. These two functions of the brain come together and make both positive or negative feelings. Most of the value judgement’s that are not aware are made here. The information that goes through the limbic system falls under either agreeable or disagreeable. The limbic system also plays a big role in what can grab your attention such as imagination and naturalness.

The Amygdala

This is just one of the 4 parts of the limbic system. It is almond in shape, and it helps in reserving memory and also arranges memories that are charged emotionally. When it comes to producing emotions, this it the part of the brain that serves the biggest function. Fear is one of the biggest emotions that the amygdala produces. When you have responses such as sweaty hands, freezing, and even a fast heart rate, the amygdala allows all of these to take place. It also is big on stress hormones that are released into the body.

The Hippocampus

The hippocampus happens to be responsible for memory arrangement, organizing information, long term memory, and much more. It reserves both new and temporary memory for long term storage. When it comes to explaining any nerves that are considered to be incoming, the hippocampus is involved in that as well.

The Hypothalamus

This part of the brain actually does so many different things. It is closely linked with the pituitary gland to direct many different parts of the body. Anything that has to do with your circadian rhythms, maintain ability, hunger, thirst, the hypothalamus monitors and directs. It also has a lot to do with directing emotions, controlling the nervous system, and movement as well.

The Thalamus

The thalamus is also known as the relay system of the brain. Signals such as vision, hearing, and somatosensory, go through the thalamus. They go through many different internal organs on its way to the brain for processing. When it comes to motor control, the thalamus also plays a very vital role.

Brain Injury

If a person were to experience some type of brain damage, they may not be able to get any type of treatment. It just depends on the type of brain injury that they suffered from. There are treatments available as well as rehab. Doctors use CT scans, and MRIs to determine an injury that is associated with the brain. There are other specialized tests that doctors may use to locate the injury in the brain and seek treatment options. They need to be able to see what functions of the brain have been impaired or even lost. With the proper treatment and rehab, it is very possible to restore some of the functions of the brain. It may not be as good as it use to be, but there will still be some function left. People with brain injuries some time make a full recovery, and some do not. It just depends on the severity of the injury as well as many other factors.
